The oval face is the type of face that is longer than it is wide. The face is round without sharp angles.
People with this face shape are very lucky. They can use earrings of almost any shape or style.
The most important point that people with oval faces should avoid is not to choose overly long designs. Long designs will make the smiley look taller. This causes the desired beautiful appearance to not appear.
For an oval face, you can choose earrings in clusters. In addition, shiny earrings that will sparkle your face and small hoop earrings will also help you achieve the desired appeal.
Square Face Type
A square face shape is one with minimal curves and an angular chin. The face is as long as the forehead, cheekbones, and chin are about the same.
If your face shape is square, you can choose jewelry that will create the illusion of a narrower forehead and jawline. In this way, your facial features will soften and look balanced.
For a square face, you can choose large oval hoop earrings or long drop earrings that add length to the face and narrow the width of the face.
Round Face Type
A Round Look face is similar to a square Look face, with equal length and width. The difference, however, is that round faces are softer and more curved than angular face shapes. Therefore, it would be a better choice for you to choose styles that will lengthen the look of your face.
If you have a round face, all you need to look more attractive is to choose long and vertical earrings. For example, you can use long drops, dangles or stylish designs that are dangling on a chain.
Diamond Face
A diamond-shaped face is characterized by a narrow forehead and a narrow chin that are approximately the same width. The cheekbones are the widest point of the face and the chin is usually pointed.
If you have this face shape, choose designs that provide a balanced look between the forehead and chin by reducing the emphasis on the jaw line.
Ring cubes and curved-looking long earrings that will be used by people with a diamond-shaped face structure will help them look great as they will soften your jawline.
We hope you feel empowered to choose the perfect jewelry and feel very confident when using these beautiful pieces!
You can create a new style by choosing the most suitable one for your face shape from Doti Sutra's beautiful earring models.

Well, if we come to our subject, we will talk about how to make a lamp from gourd, how long is its life and how it is done.
First, we provide carefully selected gourds in the most suitable sizes for the lamps we want to make. Average 20x30 cm dimensions are the most commonly used average sizes. People who turn gourds into art often prefer to grow them themselves.
First of all, the gourd is soaked in water to wipe off the crust, rust and mold on the pumpkins and the first dirt, soil is removed from it. Then it is cleaned thoroughly by rubbing it in water with a steel wool made of aluminum. There are those who do this cleaning process with sandpaper, but we do not recommend it very much, it is not very suitable for gourd. Then wait for the pumpkin to dry after cleaning it.
Patterns and motifs designed according to the shape of the dried pumpkin are drawn on the pumpkin. According to the shape, size and smallness of the pumpkin, it can be tulips, carnations, geometric patterns or a miniature painting.
Then, small holes are drilled on the patterns with a small drill with a fine tip. It will be more comfortable for you to use your Dremel as it allows you to easily give the rich tips, that is, the pattern you want, and to better fit your hand. With the delicacy of the motifs, it may be necessary to drill an average of 1500 – 3000 holes on a gourd. Then, one of the most enjoyable parts of the job is to decorate the holes with beads, and you can use beads and colors according to your own imagination. We place the beads in the holes, then we beat those beads so that they fit well into the holes, and finally we place a light bulb inside the pumpkin. A thin varnish is applied as a final finish. Apart from this, if desired, the top of the pumpkin can be colored with any water-based paint and varnish is applied.
Aromatherapy has long been the go-to for a range of health and wellness benefits. Natural fragrances have been directly linked to stress relief, better sleep, feelings of calmness, and an energised mind and body. And while many aromatherapy fans find peace with essential oils, natural incense remains just as powerful and effective.
If you’ve ever been a store that specialises in natural elements like oils, stones, and crystals, chances are you’ve seen sticks, powders, or cones of incense. But what is incense, exactly?
Simply put, incense is a collection of natural materials that smoke when burned (as opposed to igniting). These materials may include woods, barks, oils, resins, sage, or other aromatics.
Different incense will have different scents, depending on the materials. It also serves different purposes based on the scent, from freshening a room’s smell to producing therapeutic effects.
Throughout history, incense supports a variety of use cases. Some of its most common benefits include the following.
Buddhist monks have relied on incense to cleanse the air for thousands of years. It clears away bad odours and removes bacteria from the air, leaving you with a fresher-feeling space.
Some incense has a sedative effect, helping you feel calm and relaxed and ready to sleep. This is why many people burn incense close to bedtime so they reduce insomnia and melt away the stress and demands of the day.
Incense doesn’t just help to clear the air; it also helps to clear the mind. When you’re feeling under pressure, mentally blocked, or in a rut, burning incense may help to clear your neural pathways and help you think with clarity and creativity.
Along the same vein as stimulating the mind, incense is a constant companion in meditations. When your mind is free of distraction, it can focus more clearly on what’s important to you, or nothing at all.
Some scents, like lavender and chamomile, are natural relievers of anxiety and stress. These scents are often found in incense, too, and can help you feel more at ease and able to handle life’s challenges.
Incense comes in a range of forms, including powders, cones (the powder has been compressed into a cone shape), and sticks (the powder has been compressed and rolled onto a stick). In each case, the incense must be burned in order to be effective.
Sticks and cones are the easiest to use. You will need your incense, a lighter or match, and an incense holder.
There are different designs for incense holders for cones and sticks to properly collect the ash and protect the surface of the table, counter, desk, or wherever you choose to place your incense.
Once your incense is in the proper holder, simply light the tip, snuff out the fire, and enjoy the aromas.
Loose incense powders are a little more complex to burn because they require additional preparation. They also require a special holder, usually a bowl filled with fine sand or charcoal. The base (charcoal or sand) needs to be packed down tight to keep your incense powder in place. Distribute your incense powder in a line, then light one end and blow out quickly. Let the incense smolder and soak up the aromas.
Keep in mind that there are a wide range of loose incense burners on the market, some of which require special types of charcoal. Using the wrong type of charcoal can emit dangerous fumes that you shouldn’t breathe in. We highly recommend incense sticks because they are safer and simpler to use.
True to the Doti Sutra brand, we source all of our natural incense from skilled artisans who are truly gifted in their crafts. Our incense comes from Gurajat, India from artists who handroll every stick.
They use only natural ingredients, never any chemicals or harmful smells. And, as with all of our products, every purchase supports some of the world’s most talented makers that keep traditions alive.

As part of our home decor line, Calabash gourd lamps are as beautiful as they are functional. Available in a wide range of colours and designs, these lamps add flair and personality to any space while reflecting Turkish culture and art.
The calabash gourd is actually a vine-grown fruit and is sometimes called a bottle gourd or long melon. For centuries, gourds have been grown as food as well as to be turned into a variety of useful objects, such as water vessels, birdhouses, eating utensils, and even musical instruments. The gourd fruit is matured, cut, and dried, then fashioned into various objects for everyday use.
For our artisan, the Calabash gourd became the root of an entire business. A family from Bodrum, Turkey saw unique potential in gourds as lamps and started experimenting with varying techniques to carve, colour, and create their dreams.
In its simplest form, a calabash gourd lamp is a dried gourd fruit that has been hollowed out, cleaned, and delicately and intricately carved into a unique design. It’s outfitted with an electric light source, and when turned on, the light splays across the wall in a beautiful pattern (according to the lamp’s design).
Arguably, the gourd lamp’s beauty is matched only by the wonder of how it’s made. Each gourd lamp takes anywhere from 2 to 4 months to create. Once the fruit has reached full maturity, our artisans need to let the fruit dry and harden before they can start turning nature’s bounty into a work of art.
Because each lamp is made from a real gourd, no two gourd lamps will be quite alike. Aside from variances in size and shape, our partners continually come up with new decorative patterns to delight customers around the world. The pattern is drawn on the outside of the gourd, then holes are drilled based on the pattern to create fun, unique illumination patterns on walls, ceilings, and floors.
The lamp also undergoes a dye process to colour all of the little crevices that give character to every lamp. The combination of dye and varying hole sizes creates a 3D textured effect on the lamp, and the result is nothing short of captivating.
When lit, calabash gourds create a unique ambiance that you just don’t get from your average floor lamp. Light and color play together to give off relaxing, stress-free vibes. It’s calming, soothing, and spa-like, and gives you instant bohemian energy.
We source all of our calabash gourd lamps from a small business in Bodrum. Started by one man inspired by his brother, he brings his background in construction teaching to his craft, combining technical knowledge and skill with artistic vision. He has now been producing gourd lamps for over 15 years and has made thousands of lamps to date.
In addition to the more than 200 models he stocks, he also creates custom pieces. Customers use calabash gourd lamps as nightlights, office decor, home decor, gifts for family and friends, and many other uses, each one displaying the beauty of these nature-made lamps to their fullest. Purchasing a gourd lamp directly supports the artisan, whose life work is to share this unique art form with the world.
At Doti Sutra, we’ve travelled the world in search of artistic inspiration and have brought back many of the treasures we discovered to our store. The Calabash gourd lamp continues to mesmerise us and our customers with its delicate beauty, ambiance, and uniqueness.

Humans have been making and wearing jewellry for over 25,000 years. Back then, it served as a symbol of class and beauty. It quickly became a tradition to wear jewellry for special occasions or to emphasise status.
As manufacturing and mass production took over the fashion industry, handmade jewellry pieces are becoming something of a lost art. But in Nepal, handmade jewellry is still alive and well, particularly the Newari style.
Born in Nepal, Newari refers to a style of handmade silver jewellry featuring ornately carved patterns in metal. Artisans pay homage to tradition by crafting every piece using traditional techniques just as they have for centuries.
This is truly something special to behold, especially as technology and mass manufacturing have traded work ethic and artistry for simplicity and cost-savings. But in Nepal and surrounding countries, modern technology remains largely unseen. Villagers still rely on the way things have always been done, from farming to travelling and making everyday items like clothing and dishes. They appreciate a simple life, with simple things that bring them joy. This most certainly includes activities like making jewellry that will last for the ages.
Newari jewellry is largely symbolic and directly relates to Buddhism. According to the Newari caste system, jewellry varies between men and women, as well as age. Many of the traditional ornaments worn in Nepal, such as Loonswan, Tayo, and Ghau, are only to be worn by Nepalese. However, our artisans have crafted many fine Newari pieces using the same methods and materials to share with the world.
The tiny nation of Nepal is culturally rich, serving as home to more than 120 different ethnic groups and languages. It’s clear that Nepal is a place that values traditions, which is why we were certain we could find a variety of handmade arts and goods that upholds the Doti Sutra brand.
We found our craftsman in Kathmandu Valley, where jewellry making in the Himalayas has been a centuries-long practice. For decades, Westerners have known the people here to be among the most skilled metalworkers and casters in the world. Part of their success lies in keeping with tradition.
Their methods of production have not evolved much over the years, nor has the space in which they work. They keep it simple, requiring only the necessary equipment, a table, and a chair. With no distractions, no clutter, and no modern equipment to alter the learning and production curves, they can focus on creating a high-quality product. Why We Emphasise Tradition There’s great beauty in traditional ethnic jewellry, especially pieces that have been lovingly crafted by hand using tools, secrets, and techniques that have been passed down through generations.
As world travellers, we at Doti Sutra have had the pleasure of connecting directly with artisans around the world, face to face, to learn more about their cultures, values, and beliefs. And perhaps most importantly, how their lifestyles influence their art forms (and vice versa). After seeing our Nepalese artisans at work doing what they love and honour so much, it became even clearer to us that tradition never dies. The delicate filigree styles of their bracelets, rings, and earrings can be seen in jewellry pieces around the world, but none bear the fine craftsmanship, love, and attention to detail that our Nepalese friends can provide.
At Doti Sutra, we have scoured the globe in search of unique handmade items for our store, and we hit the jackpot when we connected with our Newari artisans. Since 2019, we buy all of our Newari jewellry pieces from a family-owned and operated shop that we stumbled upon during our journey.
There are only a few silversmiths left who create this stunning style. As more generations lose interest in continuing the tradition, true Newari artisans are in short supply. We’re doing our part to help their technique avoid becoming a lost art.
When goods are produced cheaply, efficiently, and uniformly, they lose much of the sparkle that makes them so unique. Designs are quickly and easily reproduced, reducing the rarity of these items. We end up with more of the same, and the goods consumers do buy lack inspiration.
What’s more, true craftsmanship and artisanal talents become lost to mass manufacturing. And in 2015, we said, “No more!”
We founded Doti Sutra as a mission to connect shoppers with unique handmade items from countries that still value tradition, excellence, and the art of making. And we know you’ll appreciate the difference.
We don’t product the fine clothing, jewellry, and decor you’ll find in our store. But we do know how to appreciate the skills, time, and imagination that artisans put into their work. We recognise that the methods and tools many artists use are those that their ancestors taught them.
True artistic skill is often passed through generations. It is able to continue thriving even in modern times because the next generation sees the value in learning the craft.
Through our travels, though, we have noticed that while some techniques — like Newari jewellry making — have been alive for thousands of years, the very concept of artisanal goods is at risk of extinction. Craftsmen are becoming harder to find, and it’s becoming more challenging to capture the interests of younger generations whose heads have been turned by technology, efficiency, and mass production.
That’s why we decided to do something about it.
We founded Doti Sutra on the idea of sharing honest, authentic art with the world. We traveled to some of the remote places of our world in search of artists and makers who still value old-fashioned methods and pour their hearts and souls into every piece. We promised to bring their fine pieces to a global stage while supporting local art communities — and that’s why you will only find handmade, one of a kind pieces in our store.
We have travelled the world to connect face to face with skilled craftsmen that have made things like textiles, jewellry, and home goods their life’s work. We work directly with each artist or shop to bring their items to our store, often collaborating on the look and feel of each piece based on what we know our customers already love.
We list the items in our store and ship to a global audience. We also highlight where the item came from and what makes it so special, like our famous Calabash gourd lamps from Turkey or our natural incenses from India. We are transparent in our prices as well as the materials and other aspects of our products, so you can feel good about every purchase.
Every product is one we have hand-selected based on our personal experiences. We know each maker personally, have learned about their background in the arts, and support the same causes. Most importantly, we’re enabling artists in underdeveloped countries and remote locations to continue doing what they love.
What makes our store so unique isn’t just the selection of items, but also the backstory of each item. We love collecting beautiful things and sharing them with you so that fine craftsmanship never completely becomes a lost art.
Our mission is to collaborate with artists and small businesses around the world. In our current times of madness, we are blessed to continue doing what we love. We believe that art is essential to existence and self-expression, and we’re putting it within everyone’s reach.
We invite you to explore Doti Sutra’s collection of fine treasures from around the world and take a moment to appreciate what’s taken our artists a lifetime to create.

One of the simplest yet most stunning items we collected on our trip was a beautiful handmade shawl in Kathmandu. Everything about this shawl captivated us, from the vibrant, culturally rich patterns to the softness of the natural sheep’s wool and cotton blend. Every fibre was wound by hand, and every garment was woven by skilled female artisans who are on a mission to change their community, one shawl at a time.
A traditional garb dating back to 14th century India, the shawl continues to be a staple piece in fashion. This simple piece of clothing is worn by draping it across the shoulders (and sometimes over the head). With no arm holes, no belt or sash, and no sleeves, it offers a loose fit that can add warmth and comfort to any outfit.
The original shawl was made of goat’s wool. After the king of Kashmir received socks made of the same material as a gift, it was suggested that the city begin a shawl weaving industry using the wool. The wool shawl quickly became Kashmir’s most recognised and sought after textile. They often featured intricate designs, usually resembling pieces of nature like birds, leaves, or flowers.
Styles and production evolved over the years, making their way to surrounding countries like Tibet and Nepal and changing in size and materials.
Local Women Handicrafts is a co-op founded by Nasreen Sheikh as a way to empower women to be leaders in their own communities. It started as a small artisan shop in Kathmandu in 2008, when Nasreen was still a teenager. Having worked as a child laborer in a sweatshop for two years, she was determined to give women alternative ways to make a dignified living doing fulfilling work.
She began training women in the art of textile making, teaching them how to weave and create patterns for textiles that would eventually be sold in her shop. Today, her shop is a thriving fiberworks business creating opportunities for women to earn a living, hone their craft, and share the love of textile-making with the community (and the world at large).
We met Nasreen and the Local Women Handicrafts initiative in 2019 during our journey to Kathmandu. Nasreen is an activist for women and global human rights, and we knew immediately that we wanted to support her through our store. She and her team embody the Doti Sutra brand by keeping with tradition in the arts and pursuing progression in society.
One of our core values here at Doti Sutra is to support local artisans and the generations of technique and experience they’ve poured into their crafts. Through our travels around the world, we continue to appreciate the love and work that goes into making goods by hand. However, these arts simply cannot continue to thrive or be properly supported without a means to showcase them beyond a local stage.
That’s why we started Doti Sutra to begin with — to shed light on a world of one of a kind goods that go beyond the limitations of mass production. Since every item is made by hand, no two are quite alike. That’s why we often only have one of each item in our store. And in a way, every item is truly made just for you, the buyer!
The classic shawl continues to earn a place in today’s fashion industry. And in the current climate of fast fashion, sustainability fears, and the world’s growing plastics problem, buying an artisan shawl made of natural wool and cotton is one of the most ethical and responsible clothing decisions you’ll ever make.
Shop our collection of handmade shawls from Kathmandu artisans and contribute to the empowerment of women everywhere.
